As a seasoned Southern California wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting countless love stories and this day i will remember forever. Today, I invite you to step into a world of vintage elegance and timeless romance as we share the captivating tale of a recent wedding at Ebell Los Angeles. I shot I mixture of film and digital at this wedding and absolutely loved the results. This couple was a joy to shoot with. Join me on this photographic journey, where our lens met love, history, and the magic of candid wedding photography all in one stunning celebration.
Candid wedding photography is an art form that beautifully encapsulates the raw, unscripted emotions of a wedding day. At Ebell Los Angeles, the elegant architecture and lush gardens provide the perfect canvas for candid moments to unfold naturally. From stolen glances to unfiltered laughter I am dedicated to preserving these authentic expressions that make your day uniquely yours.
The first look took place in the main ballroom. There was this beautiful sweeping staircase that the bride walked down to see her father for the first time that day. First looks always make me tear up.
This next section is where this venue started flexing its photographic brilliance. As we were wrapped up the first look we walked though the ballroom and I saw a shot and asked the bride Carmen to stop and pose. Below are the film shots from that. The windows silhouetted here figure and the elegant ceilings and pillars framed her as a subject. A perfect shot.
One of the hallmarks of Ebell Los Angeles is its abundant natural light. Sunlight streaming through grand windows, filtering through lush gardens, and dancing on the historic walls offers a natural luminosity that lends itself beautifully to photography. I as a photographer, revel in harnessing this divine light to illuminate your love story, ensuring every image reflects the purest emotions and the genuine beauty of your day.
After the ballroom shot I followed the bride up the the bridal suite. The light was pouring through the window over this cool vintage couch and I couldn’t help myself but capitalize on the perfect light. Both of these were shot on film. The film stock was Kodak ProImage 100. I love the warm tones that the film produces. There's a certain timeless quality to film wedding photography that resonates perfectly with the historic ambiance of Ebell Los Angeles. The soft, dreamy hues and grainy textures of film create a romantic atmosphere, reminiscent of eras past. I believe that film photography has a unique ability to elevate the essence of a wedding, adding an element of nostalgia that digital can't replicate.
Below are the digital of the same moments. I think each is beautiful in its own way. Digital is technically superior but film has more soul.
The whole day was spectacular and the ceremony was no exception. The first two photos of this next gallery are film. Every time I get film back I wonder why I shoot anything else. The way the colors and light are rendered truly capture the magic of that day.
When candid moments, film photography, and natural light converge at Ebell Los Angeles, magic happens. The timeless quality of film meets the authenticity of candid moments bathed in radiant sunlight. Together, they create a wedding album that tells a story not just of a day but of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will endure through generations.
Ebell Los Angeles is a place where history and love intersect, and where candid wedding photography and film unite to capture moments that transcend time. It's a venue that becomes a character in your love story, and I, as a photographer, am here to ensure that every chapter is immortalized in the most beautiful and genuine way possible. Thank you for joining us on this journey through the wedding day that showcased the artistry of candid and film wedding photography, embraced by the warmth of natural light.
